What is Logseq?
- •
Logseq is a free, open-source, local-first app for notes, tasks, and knowledge management.
- •
It is an outliner: everything you write is a bullet (a "block") that can be nested, linked, embedded, and referenced from anywhere else.
- •
When you open Logseq the first thing you will see is a Journal page for today's date. The way Logseq is intended to be used is that you enter new information directly in the Journal, using links to organize your data. Links are bi-directional, so every page shows what points to it, meaning that you don't have to first think about where you want to file some piece of data, since the linked page will automatically gather all related blocks.
- •
You can also organize your data using
#tags. Tags are best used for organizing data into data classes, such as#contacts,#books, or#projects, etc. For topical pages it is best to use ordinary links. - •
Each graph is stored in a local database on your device. At present you cannot modify the location where that data is stored.
- •
Sync is optional and end-to-end encrypted, and a Markdown Mirror (still in development) can keep a plain-text copy of your graph on disk. You can either pay for sync, or host the sync engine on your own server.
